NEW DELHI, July 21 — Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar resigned from office on Monday, citing personal health reasons in a formal letter to the President of India. The surprise decision brings an abrupt end to his tenure as the country’s second-highest constitutional authority.
In his resignation letter, Dhankar thanked President Droupadi Murmu for the “soothing wonderful working relationship” they shared and acknowledged the “invaluable cooperation and support” extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers.
“I remain deeply grateful for the warmth, trust and goodwill of Members of Parliament across party lines. Those relationships will always be cherished and embedded in my memory,” Dhankar wrote.
Reflecting on his time in office, he described India’s rapid economic rise and growing international stature as historic. “To have served during this transformative phase of Bharat is a true honor,” he noted.
“As I leave this esteemed office, I am filled with pride in Bharat’s global rise and phenomenal achievements and hold unwavering confidence in her brilliant future,” he concluded.
There was no immediate word from Rashtrapati Bhavan on the acceptance of his resignation or plans for a successor.
