Chandigarh, 28 October 2024: Special DGP-cum-Chief Director of Punjab Vigilance Bureau, Varinder Kumar, inaugurated the Vigilance Bureau Bhawan in SAS Nagar (Mohali) today, marking the commencement of the Annual Vigilance Awareness Week.

Following a swearing-in ceremony, officials and staff were directed to prioritize fair and timely complaint resolution, reinforcing transparency within the bureau.

The Annual Vigilance Awareness Week seeks to raise awareness among citizens and government employees about the need for corruption-free governance.

Addressing bureau officials, Kumar raised a comprehensive awareness campaign across all seven ranges in Punjab, promoting engagement between field officers and the public to foster transparency and accountability.

Stressing the bureau’s zero-tolerance policy, Kumar noted that since March 2022, 673 cases of corruption have been registered, leading to the arrest of 758 individuals. He reiterated that corruption threatens state integrity and dignity, urging public cooperation in the anti-corruption drive.

Moreover, Kumar mentioned the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line, a WhatsApp hotline introduced by CM Bhagwant Mann in 2022. This initiative has resulted in 189 FIRs, aimed at making complaint systems more accessible and citizen-friendly.
