Chandigarh/Kharar, Aug 2 — The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday conducted raids at the residence and corporate office of realtor Ranjit Singh Gill, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday evening. According to official sources, the probe is linked to an ongoing case involving former minister Bikram Singh Majithia and suspected benami property transactions.

VB teams searched Gill’s Sector 2 residence in Chandigarh and his Gillco Valley office in Kharar early in the morning, accompanied by a heavy police presence. The searches were part of what officials described as a broader financial investigation.

Gill, who was earlier associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and contested the Kharar assembly seat in 2017 and 2022, is believed to have had close ties with senior SAD leaders, including Majithia. Sources said investigators are examining multiple high-value real estate transactions allegedly carried out during the previous regime, some of which may involve benami holdings. “Evidence is being evaluated in connection with property dealings linked to an earlier case already under investigation,” a senior official said.

The Vigilance Bureau continues to act on financial irregularities under its scanner, and the raids on Gill’s premises are the latest in a series of enforcement actions aimed at exposing illicit assets and unaccounted property transactions.

Gill was inducted into the BJP by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at the CM’s official residence in Chandigarh on Friday evening.
