NEW DELHI, Oct 3 — Gitanjali Angmo, wife of Ladakh activist Sonam Wangchuk, has approached the Supreme Court seeking her husband’s release. Wangchuk, detained on September 26, has been lodged in Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan following violent clashes on September 24 between protesters demanding Sixth Schedule safeguards for Ladakh and police forces.
Wangchuk has been booked under the National Security Act (NSA) with central government accusing him for the protests, which left four people dead and around 90 injured. Angmo has challenged his detention and questioned the Ladakh Administration’s decision to invoke the NSA against him.
She alleged that she has not been provided a copy of the detention order, in violation of rules, and that she has had no contact with her husband since his arrest.
The Ladakh Administration, meanwhile, rejected claims of a “witch-hunt” or “smokescreen” against Wangchuk, saying the action was based on legal and security considerations.
