Mansa, October 29: Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Tuesday expressed concern over what he described as a growing sense of insecurity among citizens following a series of recent criminal incidents across the state.

Speaking to reporters during the Mansa Bandh, which was observed in protest against the firing on a local shopkeeper by unidentified men, Warring said the government must take “firm and immediate steps” to strengthen law and order and reassure the public.

“There is a visible sense of fear in society, and it is important for all stakeholders to act swiftly before the situation worsens,” Warring noted, while expressing solidarity with the affected family in Mansa.

He urged the authorities to ensure their security and bring the culprits to justice.

The Congress leader referred to incidents of ransom-related crimes, including the killing of an Abohar trader, and said that such cases have shaken public confidence.

“Many citizens are feeling unsafe, and some have even resorted to paying ransom quietly,” he said, adding that “effective policing and accountability can change the atmosphere within weeks.”

Warring also mentioned the influence of organized crime in parts of the state, saying that political parties should remain cautious and avoid any association that could embolden such elements.

“Punjab’s peace and stability should remain everyone’s foremost priority,” he said.

Recalling his interaction with residents in Tarn Taran, Warring said several people admitted to being fearful of venturing out after dark. “It reminded me of earlier times when people would hurry home before nightfall,” he added.

Former MLA Hardev Arshi, who also addressed the gathering, appealed to all parties to come together for the safety and unity of Punjab.

He urged the Chief Minister to seek feedback directly from the ground rather than relying solely on administrative briefings.

Warring was accompanied by several senior Congress leaders, including Balkaur Singh, father of late singer Sidhu Moosewala.
