Yamunanagar, Feb 15: The Wildlife Department successfully intercepted a motorcycle-borne smuggling attempt in the Chhachhrauli area of Yamunanagar, leading to the recovery of stolen khair wood. While the suspects managed to flee the scene upon spotting the authorities, officials have identified the individuals involved and impounded the vehicle used in the crime.
The operation was initiated following a specific tip-off received on February 11 regarding the illegal felling of khair trees in the Darpur forest area. Acting on this intelligence, a specialized team established a strategic checkpoint near Darpur village to monitor incoming traffic from the forest.
“When the team tried to stop the motorcycle, the rider fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind,” stated Inspector Lilu Ram of the Wildlife Department. The subsequent search of the abandoned motorcycle revealed three stumps of khair wood cleverly concealed beneath a large bundle of grass.
Further investigation into the surrounding forest led to the discovery of freshly cut stumps, confirming that the timber had been harvested recently. Authorities have identified the accused as Alim, Talim, Akbar, and Dilshad, all of whom are residents of Darpur village. The department has officially seized the wood and the motorcycle as the inquiry continues.
