YAMUNANAGAR, MAY 21 — Additional Sessions Judge Sukhda Pritam sentenced a 36-year-old woman to rigorous life imprisonment for the murder of her 3-year-old daughter following a judicial trial at the Jagadhri District Court.
The court convicted Maninder Kaur, a resident of Kuldeep Nagar, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and imposed a financial penalty of 25,000 rupees. Court officials confirmed that failure to clear the monetary penalty will subject the convict to an additional six months of incarceration.
The legal proceedings originated from a formal criminal complaint filed by the convict’s husband, Kulwinder Singh, which led to an investigation by the Gandhi Nagar police station in 2022.
“The prosecution successfully established that the accused intentionally ended the life of her minor daughter to remove obstacles in her personal life,” the official case record stated. “The evidence presented demonstrated a planned attempt to abandon her marital responsibilities.”
Police documentation detailed that Kaur left her primary residence with her two children on August 9, 2022, and traveled to Amritsar. Investigators proved that she used a traditional scarf to strangle her young daughter inside a local hotel room before leaving the victim’s body outside a religious site.
During the initial inquiry, the woman disclosed that domestic disputes over an extramarital relationship led to the crime.
“My husband works in a private company in Gurugram and would visit home occasionally,” Kaur stated to investigators during the collection of evidence. “During college days, I was in a relationship with a man from Ambala and we remained in touch even after marriage.”
The police records established that Kaur confessed to the crime, admitting that she sought to end her domestic ties and intended to eliminate both children to live without familial obligations.
