Shimla, Dec 6:Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday announced that women will soon be inducted into the state’s Fire Services, calling it a “significant step toward women’s empowerment under Vyavastha Parivartan.”
Speaking at the 63rd Raising Day of the Home Guards and Civil Defence at Sarogheen, Sukhu said amendments to recruitment rules were underway to open the force to women. “Our disaster and fire-response teams have shown remarkable commitment. Strengthening them with women personnel will only make the system stronger,” he said.
Sukhu added that Home Guard recruitment will begin shortly and highlighted new maternity leave benefits for women serving in the Home Guards. Personnel from the Home Guards, Civil Defence, Fire Services and the SDRF were also felicitated for their performance during the event.
