Beijing, April 1: Chinese President Xi Jinping urged closer cooperation between India and China, calling their relationship a “Dragon-Elephant tango,” as he exchanged congratulatory messages with Indian President Droupadi Murmu on the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties.
Xi emphasized the need for peaceful coexistence and deeper communication on global affairs, adding that Beijing was ready to enhance strategic mutual trust and cooperation. “The historical course of our bilateral relations shows that being partners is the right choice,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun mentioned during a media briefing.
Both nations, engaged in border de-escalation efforts since the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes, recently held diplomatic talks in Beijing on border management and resumption of cross-border exchanges. Guo noted that under the strategic guidance of Xi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, China was willing to advance bilateral relations through dialogue and stability.
Plans for commemorative events marking the diplomatic milestone will be announced later, he added.
