Muktsar, June 18: A young man was allegedly abducted from his home in Malwala Katorewala village near Malout late Monday night, after a group of armed men arrived in an SUV, opened fire, and injured his parents.

The victim, identified as Ranjit Singh, was forcibly taken by the assailants, who reportedly entered the house calmly before turning violent. “They came in, asked for water, and once inside, dragged Ranjit out and kidnapped him,” said Malout DSP Iqbal Singh on Tuesday.

The victim’s parents, who sustained gunshot injuries to their legs during the incident, have filed a police complaint. According to them, the abductors have since contacted the family, demanding ₹7 lakh for Ranjit’s release.

Preliminary investigation suggests the abduction may be linked to an ongoing financial dispute. “Ranjit had issues over money with some individuals, and we suspect they are behind this act. They had visited the house two months ago as well,” said the DSP.

Police have launched a manhunt to trace the abductors and rescue the youth. “We are conducting search operations and will ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the DSP added.
