Mohali, 14 October, 2024: A 19-year-old vegetable vendor was fatally stabbed by unidentified assailants following a dispute at a Dussehra fair in Balongi, Mohali, on Saturday, 12 October, 2024.
The victim, identified as Suraj, a resident of Phase-1 in Mohali, became embroiled in an argument with a group of young men while waiting for a swing ride, according to reports.
According to eye-witnesses, the confrontation escalated when Suraj accidentally bumped into one of the suspects while boarding the swing.
After he disembarked, one of the accused struck him on the head with a stick, and another stabbed him in the back with a knife before fleeing the scene, they said.
In the wake of the attack, Suraj’s friends panicked and ran away but quickly alerted his brother about the incident.
Bystanders rushed Suraj to Mohali Civil Hospital in Phase-6, where he was later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32 due to his critical injuries.
Regrettably, he succumbed to his wounds en route to GMCH, an official said.
A senior police officer stated that a murder case has been filed against the unidentified attackers at the Balongi police station, and authorities are actively working to apprehend the suspects as soon as possible.
