Mahakumbh Nagar, 23 January 2025: The ongoing Maha Kumbh has reached a significant milestone, with over 10 crore pilgrims bathing at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, the state government confirmed on Thursday.

The landmark was surpassed at 12 PM, with a surge in daily arrivals to the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

The Uttar Pradesh government reported the development in a statement, mentioning the continued rise in pilgrimage numbers.

“The 10 crore figure was surpassed at 12 PM on Thursday, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing Maha Kumbh,” the statement noted.

The religious event, which began on January 13, is expected to continue until February 26.

While the daily influx of pilgrims continues, the number of attendees surges during major bathing festivals, with millions arriving to earn spiritual merit.

On Thursday alone, 30 lakh people participated in the ritual by noon, including 10 lakh ‘kalpvasis’ and other devotees.

The government had previously projected that over 45 crore people would visit the Maha Kumbh this year, a figure that seems within reach given the steady flow of visitors.

Notably, the highest attendance was recorded during the Makar Sankranti festival, when around 3.5 crore devotees took part. Additionally, over 1.7 crore pilgrims bathed during the Paush Purnima festival.

Despite the massive crowds, daily life in Prayagraj has remained largely unaffected.

The district administration has imposed restrictions only on major festival days, with schools, offices, and businesses operating as usual.

“There has been no significant pressure on daily life in the city,” the statement added.
