CHANDIGARH, January 23: Punjab Police is set to receive a major infrastructural boost with the Punjab Government approving ₹426 crores for the upgradation and modernisation of police buildings, including police stations and police lines, over the next three years.

This funding is aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of the police force, as confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, during a meeting in Ferozepur.

“This funding will significantly enhance the infrastructure across the state, focusing on improving police stations and police lines to enhance operational capability,” said DGP Yadav.

The announcement came as DGP Yadav concluded a tour of Ferozepur, Bathinda, and Patiala, where he reviewed the law and order situation and discussed security measures ahead of Republic Day.

The DGP underlined that the Punjab Police is fully prepared to ensure the peaceful and secure celebrations of Republic Day-2025, with heightened security across the state.

The DGP instructed all Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to reinforce police presence, step up patrols, and increase security operations in public spaces, critical areas, and potential hotspots, following directives from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

During the tour, DGP Yadav inaugurated several developmental projects, including the renovation of a conference hall in Bathinda and the addition of 20 PCR motorcycles in Patiala through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding.

In a gesture of recognition for the department’s contribution to sports, Yadav promoted six Punjab Police coaches who have been instrumental in training young athletes in Sangrur under the Youth Connect Program. This initiative has helped 78 children from underprivileged backgrounds secure jobs based on their sports achievements.

Besides, DGP Yadav awarded 46 commendation discs to Punjab Police officials from the Patiala Range for their dedicated service and exceptional performance.

Among those attending the security meetings were key officers including DIGs from Ferozepur, Bathinda, and Patiala, as well as SSPs from several districts.

The focus on modernizing police infrastructure and ensuring a secure Republic Day celebration underlines the government’s commitment to public safety and police welfare.
