MOHALI, July 13 — In a joint crackdown on illegal liquor transportation, excise officials and local police seized 17 cases of illicit liquor from a vehicle near Sector-48, Jagatpura, on Friday. The car, a Honda City bearing registration number CH01BC 7318, was intercepted during a routine enforcement operation.
Police said the seized liquor stock was reportedly meant for sale in Chandigarh, a violation of excise norms. The operation was led by excise inspector Gurinderpal, under the supervision of Patiala Deputy Commissioner (Excise) Tarsem Chand, Assistant Commissioner (Excise) Ashok Chalotra, and Excise Officer Dewan Chand.
The driver, identified as Vikram Thakur, a resident of Jagatpura, was found transporting 15 cases of Jamila Santra (nips), one case of Jamila Santra (quarts), and one case of Imperial Style (nips).
Officials confirmed that Thakur is a repeat offender, with two previous FIRs already registered against him under the Punjab Excise Act, 1914, for similar violations. A fresh case has been filed against him at Police Station Phase-11, Mohali, under Sections 61 and 78(2) of the Act.
“This operation is part of our intensified efforts to curb the illegal liquor trade in the region,” said an official involved in the enforcement drive.
