Amritsar, April 11: Punjab’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force seized 18.22 kg heroin from Khaira village in Amritsar’s Gharinda area and arrested Hira Singh, accused of links with Pakistan-based smugglers and anti-national groups.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said the arrest followed a well-coordinated operation by the Border Range unit. Preliminary investigation revealed that Hira Singh and his associate Kulwinder Singh of Dauke village were working with a Pakistan-based trafficker identified as Billa, smuggling heroin across the border on his instructions.
Raids are ongoing to trace Kulwinder and establish the forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network, Yadav added.
