18 Maoists Killed in Chhattisgarh Encounters

Sukma/Bijapur, March 29: At least 18 suspected Maoists were killed, and four jawans injured in two separate encounters with forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma and Bijapur districts on Saturday.

In Sukma, 17 Maoists, including 11 female cadres, were killed during an operation in the Gogunda, Nendum, and Upampalli areas under the Kerlapal police station. Among the dead was a member of the CPI (Maoist) special zonal committee, said Bastar Range IG Sunderaj P.

Four personnel—three from the DRG Sukma and one from the CRPF—were injured in the encounter. Their condition is stable.

In Bijapur, forces killed one Maoist in the Narsapur jungles during an evening encounter. Police recovered the body and weapons but have yet to identify the rebel.
