HOSHIARPUR, Dec 16— A 22-year-old man was shot dead on Tuesday while heading to a gym near Hariana town in Hoshiarpur district, police said.
The victim, identified as Abdul Mohammad, was riding pillion on his friend’s Activa scooter when assailants opened fire on him, killing him on the spot. Police said the attackers arrived in a white Alto car and fired between five and seven rounds before fleeing.
The victim’s friend, who was driving the scooter and witnessed the attack, told police that one of the accused was wearing a round turban. The shooting took place as the two were traveling toward the gym.
Police reached the spot soon after the incident and recovered empty cartridges from the area. A case has been registered, and teams have been formed to identify and trace the attackers.
Investigators said CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and possible motives behind the killing are being probed.
