Amritsar, March 5 — Amritsar Rural police seized 23 kg of heroin from Devi Daspura village in Jandiala, linking it to a smuggling network operated by US-based Jasmit Singh, also known as Lucky.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said the consignment, retrieved by accused Sahilpreet Singh alias Karan, was part of the network’s drug operations. “Multiple teams are working to arrest the accused and trace both backward and forward linkages in the smuggling chain,” he mentioned.
DIG Border Range Satinder Singh stated that police acted on a tip-off about Sahilpreet retrieving the heroin from across the border.
“An intelligence-led operation led to the seizure of 23 packets, each weighing 1 kg, stored in a jute bag at a pinpointed location,” he said.
Investigators found that Sahilpreet had direct contact with Jasmit Singh, who allegedly arranged the consignment. Jasmit, already facing charges under the Arms Act and attempt to murder, remains at large.
A case (FIR 32 dated 4/3/2025) has been registered under Section 21C of the NDPS Act at Jandiala police station.
