48 PU Faculty Named Among World’s Top 2% Scientists

Chandigarh, Sept 21: Forty-eight faculty members from Panjab University (PU) have been named in the Stanford–Elsevier list of the world’s top 2% scientists for 2025, marking a major recognition of the university’s research footprint. Of them, 30 secured places in the career-wise category.

The database evaluates scientists using a composite citation score that measures both career-long contributions and recent research impact. Single-year ranks reflect research output for 2024, while career-wise rankings assess the full span of academic contributions.

Among those who achieved career-wise ranks are SK Kulkarni, Kewal Krishan, Harsh Nayyar, Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Surinder Kumar Mehta, Harminder Pal Singh, Anil Kumar, Kanwaljit K Chopra, Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, IP Kaur, Daizy Rani Batish, Surya Kant Tripathi, Vivek Ranjan Sinha, Sushil Kumar Kansal, Lokesh Ashok Kumar, MM Aggarwal, RK Kohli, Sonal Singhal, Suman Mor, Om Prakash Katare, AH Kaur, Sushil Kumar Tomar, Vishal Gupta, Gargi Ghoshal, Anurag Kuhad, Prince K Sharma, Jaswinder Singh and Harmesh Kumar.

The broader list of PU scholars also includes names such as Gargi Ghoshal, Sushil Kumar Kansal, Suman Mor, IP Kaur, Rajat Sandhir, Surya Kant Tripathi, Daizy Rani Batish, Vishal K Sharma, Mamta Juneja, Jaswinder Singh, Monika Nehra, Kusum Harjai, Gurjaspreet Singh, Shailendra Kumar Arya, Anupama Kaushik, Renu Chadha, Gajanand S Sharma, Gaurav Verma, Navneet Kaur, Vandita Kakkar, Ravi Pratap Barnwal, Subash Chandra Sahoo and Jatin Chadha.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig congratulated the faculty, noting that the recognition spans a wide cross-section of PU departments and institutes. “From pharmaceutical sciences, forensic science, environmental sciences, chemistry, botany and physics to engineering, microbiology, biotechnology and biophysics, the diversity of names on the list underlines the university’s broad research base and growing international visibility,” she said.

She added that PU’s strategy of fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and encouraging high-quality publications has led to this recognition. “Our sustained focus on impactful research is showing up in global bibliometric and ranking indicators,” Vig remarked. “This latest recognition by the Stanford–Elsevier team is an important external validation.”

The inclusion of 48 PU faculty members, many with career-long rankings, reflects the university’s rising global profile in research and scholarship.
