CHANDIGARH, 19 February – Punjab Police have dismissed 52 officials, from constables to inspectors, on corruption charges in a statewide crackdown over the past 10 days, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said Wednesday.
The dismissals, recommended by district Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), were part of an effort to tackle misconduct within the force following Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directive.
“The action was taken to root out corruption and misuse of power,” Yadav said at a press conference.
The chief minister had earlier mentioned receiving complaints about police officials allegedly registering fake FIRs to extort money.
The crackdown is part of a broader initiative to ensure transparency and accountability within the department, officials said.
The dismissed police personnel include one inspector, five assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), four head constables (HCs), and 42 constables across multiple districts.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said CPs and SSPs are conducting a review in their respective jurisdictions to identify officers wanted in FIRs, facing serious allegations, or involved in corruption. He stated that officials are thoroughly examining evidence and following due procedure before taking action.
