Mohali: The Mohali traffic police have initiated a special campaign featuring checkpoints throughout the city, resulting in 53 drivers being fined for drunk driving.
According to police, these checkpoints were established in high-traffic areas, including the Phase 3B2 market, Zirakpur, Kharar, and Airport Road.
Mohali Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Harinder Singh Maan stated that, under the guidance of SSP Deepak Pareek, efforts against drunk driving have been intensified.
“The campaign aims to enhance road safety and decrease fatalities, as drunk driving significantly contributes to road mishaps in Mohali,” he said.
Maan noted that checkpoints would be increased on weekends, and surprise checks would also be conducted.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Karnail Singh reported that from September 14 to October 5, Mohali police issued 245 challans for drunk driving.
He added that these offenders not only jeopardize their own lives but also pose risks to others on the road.
