Brig Chauhan Takes Charge as Chandigarh NCC Group Commander

Chandigarh, 7 January 2025: Brigadier VS Chauhan has officially assumed the position of Group Commander for the Chandigarh NCC Group, succeeding Brigadier Harpreet Singh, who retired on December 31, 2024.

A distinguished officer, Brig Chauhan was commissioned into the 5th Battalion (Special Forces) of the Parachute Regiment and honored with the prestigious Sword of Honour from the Indian Military Academy.

He has earned the Yudh Seva Medal in recognition of his significant contributions to anti-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.

His extensive experience includes commanding the 10 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion in Doda district and leading a brigade along the high-altitude areas of the Line of Control.

He has also served as Director of Threat Assessment and Strategic Operations in the CBRN section at Army headquarters and as Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to former Presidents Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma and KR Narayanan. He is a proud alumnus of the US Army’s John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center.

In his new role, Brig Chauhan will oversee the Chandigarh NCC Group, which consists of four units, including the Air Squadron and Naval Unit. The group trains over 5,000 cadets from 54 colleges and schools. His previous experience as NCC Group Commander in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and efficiency of this newly assumed role.

Upon taking charge, Brig Chauhan convened with Chandigarh’s adviser, Rajiv Verma, to address key NCC matters and strategize for enhanced coordination.

The NCC, functioning as the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces, operates out of New Delhi and offers military training to students across schools and colleges on a voluntary basis.

The Tri-Services Organisation encompasses the Army, Navy, and Air Force, providing cadets with fundamental military training without any obligation for active military service upon completion.
