Patiala, April 11: A 52-year-old man was shot dead following a heated argument during a liquor session at an office near the old bus stand late Thursday night, police said.
The victim, identified as Mahinder Singh of Anand Nagar, was reportedly with the accused when the altercation took place around 11 pm.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that a monetary dispute led to the argument, after which the accused opened fire,” said the investigating officer, adding that the weapon used appeared to be licensed.
Mahinder sustained bullet injuries after three shots were fired and died on the spot. The accused fled immediately after the incident.
The body was sent to Rajindra Hospital for post-mortem.
Police have registered a case under murder charges and launched a manhunt to apprehend the assailant.
