17 Arrested in Drug, Liquor Crackdown Across Tarn Taran District

Tarn Taran, May 18 — In a major crackdown on drug users and individuals involved in the illegal narcotics trade, Tarn Taran district police arrested 17 persons during raids conducted at 23 different locations on Friday, officials said.

According to police, three individuals were arrested for possession of 26 grams of heroin. They were identified as Kala Singh of Kadgill, Charanjit Singh of Rasulpur, and Balwinder Singh Bler.

In separate incidents, three more persons were apprehended while consuming heroin. They were named as Pawandeep Singh, Salman Singh of Chabal Kalan, and Harkanwaljit Singh of Bhaini Mattuan.

The police also reported the seizure of 347 intoxicating tablets from Satnam Singh of Cheema Khurd, Satnam Singh of Fatehpur Sugga, and Harpal Singh Thatta, who were taken into custody.

In an operation at Sran Talwandi village, Verowal police, along with officials from the Excise Department, arrested Yodhbir Singh Yoda. He was found in possession of a working still, 150 litres of lahan (fermented raw material for liquor), and 11,250 ml (15 bottles) of illicit liquor.

Additionally, seven others were nabbed from various locations for possessing a combined total of 49,500 ml (66 bottles) of illicit liquor.

All arrests have led to the registration of cases under appropriate sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Excise Act, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
