AAP MLA Raman Arora Arrested in Corruption Probe

JALANDHAR, May 23: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Raman Arora was arrested Friday by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) while visiting a temple, in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation.

According to sources, Arora’s arrest is tied to the case involving Sukhdev Vashisht, a former Assistant Town Planner (ATP) of the Municipal Corporation, who was taken into custody last week. Vashisht allegedly collaborated with Arora to issue fake notices and extort money from selected individuals under the guise of official action.

Following Arora’s arrest, VB teams carried out a raid at his residence. Officials have not disclosed what was recovered during the search.

The MLA’s security detail—14 personnel in total—had been withdrawn 10 days ago on government orders, signaling that action against him was imminent.

“We are pursuing the matter as per legal procedures, and further investigation is underway,” a senior vigilance official said, requesting anonymity. More details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
