Chandigarh, May 25: Moderate to heavy rain lashed several parts of Haryana and Punjab on Sunday, bringing much-needed relief from the recent spell of hot and humid weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
In Haryana, rainfall was widespread and intense in several areas over the 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. Karnal recorded the highest precipitation at 118 mm, followed by Kaithal with 78 mm and Hisar with 73.9 mm. Other significant readings included Kurukshetra (65 mm), Jhajjar (40.5 mm), Gurugram (39.5 mm), Sirsa (39 mm), and Ambala (43 mm).
Punjab, by contrast, witnessed relatively lighter rainfall. Gurdaspur received 36.8 mm, Pathankot 27 mm, Bathinda and Faridkot 16 mm each, Amritsar 13.2 mm, Patiala 8.9 mm, Ludhiana 3.2 mm, and Ferozepur 3 mm. Mohali saw only a trace, with 0.5 mm recorded. Chandigarh, the joint capital of both states, experienced light showers.
The rain helped pull down temperatures by a few degrees across the region, offering respite from the muggy conditions that had prevailed over the past week.
