Washington, June 5: President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks on Thursday amid ongoing stalemate in trade negotiations between the world’s two largest economies. The discussion came after Trump publicly described Xi as “very tough” and “extremely hard to make a deal with.”
On Wednesday, Trump posted on his social media, “I like President XI of China, always have, and always will, but he is VERY TOUGH, AND EXTREMELY HARD TO MAKE A DEAL WITH!!!”
Trade talks between the United States and China hit a deadlock soon after a May 12 agreement aimed at reducing tariff rates to pave the way for further discussions. The impasse stems largely from both countries’ desire to maintain economic dominance, complicating efforts to reach a compromise.
