CHANDIGARH, June 9: A 46-year-old woman was left shaken after two motorcycle-borne assailants snatched her gold chain during her early morning walk in Sector 34, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 5:50 a.m. on June 6, when the victim, Mamta Rani—also known as Puja Rani—stepped out for her daily walk near the Sector 34 C-D turn.
In her complaint, Mamta, a resident of Sector 34-D, told police that the attackers approached on a motorcycle. “One of them got off, grabbed the chain from around my neck and sped off with his accomplice,” she reported.
“It happened so suddenly. I was in shock and couldn’t process what just happened. It was terrifying,” she said, recalling the moment.
Due to the emotional impact of the incident, Mamta did not report the snatching immediately. “I was scared and needed time to gather myself. I informed my family only after reaching home and decided to file a complaint the next day,” she added in her statement.
Acting on her complaint, Sector 34 police registered a case under Sections 304(2) (snatching) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Police officials said efforts are underway to trace the suspects, with CCTV footage from the area being reviewed for leads.
