Chandigarh, June 22: In a major intelligence-led operation, Punjab Police have arrested two individuals for alleged involvement in espionage activities connected to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopy Foji and Sahil Masih alias Shali. The duo was apprehended by Amritsar Rural Police during a targeted operation based on actionable intelligence.

“In a major intelligence-based operation, Amritsar Rural Police apprehended two persons suspected of espionage activities linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI),” DGP Yadav posted on X.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Gurpreet Singh was in direct contact with ISI operatives and is suspected of transferring sensitive and confidential information through pen drives.

“The key ISI handler involved in the case has been identified as Rana Javed,” Yadav said, confirming the Pakistani connection behind the data leak.

Two mobile phones used to maintain communication with Pakistani handlers have been recovered from the accused, according to the police. Authorities believe the suspects may be part of a larger espionage-terror network.

“Investigations are under way to dismantle the broader espionage-terror network and identify all collaborators,” DGP Yadav added.

The arrests come amid growing security concerns over cross-border intelligence activities and highlight the sustained efforts of Punjab Police to counter infiltration and sabotage networks operating in the region.
