AMRITSAR, June 27 —To globalise Indian higher education, Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has approved a proposal to establish its first offshore campus in California, USA.
The decision was taken during a recent syndicate meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Dr Karamjeet Singh. The initiative is aligned with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages Indian institutions to build a global presence.
“This campus will not only cater to the educational and cultural aspirations of the Punjabi diaspora but also promote academic exchange and international collaboration,” said Dr Singh.
He said the California campus is expected to enhance India’s academic, economic and cultural presence abroad, offering students from both India and the US opportunities to engage in cross-cultural and research-driven learning.
Preparatory work, including seeking necessary regulatory clearances, has already begun. The Vice Chancellor also appealed to the global Punjabi community to extend support for the venture.
