Ropar, July 16: A 28-year-old Army jawan was found dead inside a parked car near the water tank of the local sports stadium in Khokhran village on Wednesday, prompting a police investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death.
The deceased has been identified as Kuljit Singh, a resident of Fatehgarh Veeran village, who had returned home on leave just four to five days ago from Kota, Rajasthan, where he was currently posted.
According to Chamkaur Sahib SHO Gurpreet Singh, police received a call about an unattended Swift car lying at the stadium grounds. “When we reached the spot, we found the body of a man on the driver’s seat. He was later identified as Kuljit Singh,” the SHO said.
Kuljit’s family, which includes his father and wife—both serving police personnel currently posted in Jalandhar—had reported him missing. His father told the police that Kuljit had left home around 4 p.m. on Tuesday to buy clothes from Chamkaur Sahib but never returned. The family searched for him all night before the police were informed.
Police have registered a case and initiated a probe to determine the cause of death. “We are awaiting post-mortem results and are examining all possible angles, including foul play or medical reasons,” said an investigating officer.
No visible injuries or signs of struggle were reported at the scene, but officials said nothing is being ruled out at this stage.
Kuljit had joined the Indian Army in 2017 and was known to be in good physical health, according to family members. His sudden death has shocked the village, with locals gathering outside his home to offer condolences.
