Mohali, July 26 — Two men lost their lives in separate road accidents in Mohali on Thursday and Friday, prompting police action and investigations into both cases.
On Friday afternoon, 28-year-old Sonu, a native of Ludhiana and resident of Sheikhpur Majra village, died after his motorcycle was hit by a truck near the Azizpur toll plaza on the Zirakpur-Patiala Road. Employed as a cleaner at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, Sonu was returning home from work when the collision occurred.
Investigating officer ASI Rajesh Chohan confirmed that the accident resulted from the truck driver’s negligent driving. “A case has been registered against the truck driver under Sections 281 and 106 of the BNS,” Chohan said.
Sonu is survived by his wife and two young children. His sudden death has left his family in deep shock.
In another fatal incident on Thursday evening, Narendra Singh, a scooterist employed with a private company, was killed after being struck by a speeding car near the rear side of the Sector 71 police station.
According to investigation officer Keuual Kumar, the car — bearing registration number CH-01-CK-9889 — hit the scooter from behind, throwing Singh off and trapping him under the vehicle. “The driver did not stop and fled the scene immediately after the collision,” Kumar said.
Eyewitnesses rushed to help and called emergency services. Singh was taken to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His body has been sent for autopsy.
Police have launched a manhunt for the car involved in the hit-and-run. “We are scanning CCTV footage from nearby locations and have registered a case under Sections 106 and 281 of the BNS,” said Kumar.
Both families have been informed of the tragic losses as investigations continue.
