PATIALA, Aug. 14 — Punjab Police on Thursday arrested two operatives of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang from the Patiala–Ambala highway near Shambhu village, seizing a 9-mm Glock pistol and six live cartridges from their possession.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav called it “a major breakthrough” for the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF). “The AGTF arrested two most-wanted Lawrence Bishnoi gang operatives from the Patiala–Ambala Highway near Village Shambhu,” Yadav said in a statement on X.

Preliminary investigation revealed the duo had fled to Nepal after committing a murder and returned to Punjab on the directions of foreign-based handlers to execute what police described as a “sensational crime.”

Police said both accused have an extensive criminal record with more than 15 cases registered against them in Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan and Gujarat under various criminal Acts. They are also wanted in the recent murder of Bharat Ratan, alias Vicky, in Fazilka, Yadav added.

The arrests, police said, are part of an ongoing crackdown on organised crime in the state.
