Amritsar, Sept 12 — The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Thursday announced an initial allocation of ₹20 crore to support flood-affected families in Punjab, unveiling a series of measures aimed at aiding farmers, children and gurdwaras hit by the disaster.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, addressing reporters after an executive committee meeting, said the body will supply 8 lakh litres of diesel to farmers for land preparation and provide high-quality wheat seed to those with less than 10 acres. Each flood-affected gurdwara will receive ₹50,000 in financial aid, while children who lost their textbooks in the floods will be given free replacements.
In the health sector, the SGPC said 50 medical vans from Sri Guru Ramdas Medical College would be stationed in flood-hit districts to tackle post-flood illnesses. Relief supplies, including langar and rations, will continue alongside the new initiatives.
Dhami urged the Punjab Government to waive VAT on diesel for farmers, arguing that such a step would maximise the impact of relief measures. “Our relief is being carried out through Guru’s Golak and public contributions. We appeal to the sangat to extend full support,” he said.
The committee also announced a contribution of ₹1.01 lakh from the association of former SGPC employees and paid homage to those who lost their lives in the floods, as well as to Baba Baljinder Singh of Rara Sahib.
So far, the SGPC has dispatched relief material worth ₹77 lakh, in addition to Thursday’s commitments.
