KURUKSHETRA, Sept. 29 — Five people were killed and at least five others injured in a head-on collision between two cars on the Kaithal-Kurukshetra road early Monday, police said.
The accident occurred around 7 a.m. near Ghararsi village, about eight kilometers from Kurukshetra town, and is believed to have been caused by over-speeding, according to Adarsh police station SHO Dinesh Singh. “The impact was so severe that both the vehicles were completely mangled. Locals had to cut open the car doors to rescue those trapped inside,” Singh said.
One of the cars, carrying six passengers from Bubka village in Ambala, was badly crushed. Five occupants — identified as Praveen, Pawan, Rajendra, Urmila and Suman — died on the spot. The lone survivor from the vehicle, 18-year-old Vanshika, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment, police said.
Four people traveling in the other car were also injured. They were identified as Santosh (45), Rishipal (55), Leela Devi (52) and Praveen (40). The group was reportedly on its way to Mulana in Ambala for medical treatment. Police said Leela Devi had recently undergone surgery and was being taken for a follow-up check-up.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem, while the injured were admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital.
