Chandigarh, Oct 23: The decomposed body of a 25-year-old welder, identified as Akash from Milk Colony, Dhanas, was found in a drain near Dhanas after he went missing nearly four days earlier. Police have registered a case under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are investigating the matter.

The body was recovered on October 19 from near Rao Chowk, Patiala, and later sent for post-mortem to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital. The autopsy was conducted on October 21. Police said efforts are on to trace and apprehend those involved.

Akash’s family had reported him missing on October 18, a day before his body was discovered. His elder sister, Neha, 28, lodged the complaint at Sarangpur police station, alleging foul play and naming possible suspects. She said her brother had last been seen on October 15 and that the family had searched for him for several days before turning to the police.

Neha told police that Akash, who often drank with friends, was in a relationship with a woman named Jyoti from Sector 25 and had plans to marry her. She added that her cousin Amrit Pal, who worked with Akash, told the family he last saw Akash on the night he went missing. “He was near a park in Dhanas with three to four young men, one of whom was identified as Bunty,” Amrit reportedly told the family.

Neha claimed her brother’s death could not have been accidental. “My brother was healthy and strong. He could not have been overpowered by one person. I am sure Bunty and his friends made him drink alcohol, killed him, and threw his body in the water,” she said. She added that no external injuries were visible due to decomposition but insisted the case was a murder.
