United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that the Israeli war on Gaza, which began a year ago, continues to inflict severe humanitarian suffering on Palestinians.
In a video message marking the anniversary of the war, he called on the international community to acknowledge the horrific events that have transpired and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families.
Guterres noted that the Lebanese people have also been affected by the ongoing war, stressing the urgent need to silence the guns and alleviate the pain in the region.
“It is time for the release of the hostages. Time to silence the guns. Time to stop the suffering that has engulfed the region,” he said.
“Now is the time for peace, international law, and justice,” he said.
He stressed the importance of pursuing a permanent resolution to the conflict, one that enables Palestine, Israel, and all neighboring countries to “coexist in peace, dignity, and mutual respect.”
