Jalandhar, October 29: Another youth from Jalandhar has reportedly been caught in the Russia-Ukraine conflict zone after being deceived with a promise of employment. The man, identified as Harminder Singh, claimed he was forcibly recruited into the Russian army despite travelling on a tourist visa in June this year.
In a video that has since gone viral, Harminder Singh appears visibly distressed as he appeals to the Indian government for rescue. “I came to Russia in search of a job and was promised work as a construction labourer, but they sent me to the frontline instead,” he said, adding, “I request the Indian government to take me out and bring me back to India. There is a threat to my life here.”
Harminder described being stationed near areas hit by drone strikes and facing dangerous conditions daily. His family in Punjab said he had left home hoping to earn a livelihood but ended up trapped in a warzone.
Speaking to reporters, his brother Gurminder Singh said, “He went abroad to support the family but was cheated and made to join the Russian army. We appeal to the government to intervene and bring him home safely.”
