KHARAR, 10 Nov — A member of the Davinder Bambiha gang was arrested after being injured in a police encounter in Ajnala village near Kharar on Monday morning, officials said.

The accused, identified as Ranbir Rana, sustained a leg injury when police opened fire during a brief shootout. He was later admitted to the Kharar sub-divisional hospital.

Police said Rana is suspected to have been involved in the November 5 firing incident outside the residence of hotelier Tara Singh Saini in Sector 38, Chandigarh. No one was injured in that attack.

According to police, four bullets were fired that night, striking a jeep belonging to Saini’s tenant as well as the gate and wall of the house. CCTV footage showed two motorcycle-borne men opening fire around 12:30 a.m. before escaping.

Saini, who owns the Regenta Place Hotel at TDI City, Sector 119, Mohali, told police he had received a threatening call earlier from an unknown number. “The caller introduced himself as Lucky Patial,” he said in his complaint.

Police have launched further investigations to determine whether the Kharar suspect acted under instructions from the Bambiha gang or its associates.
