TARN TARAN, Nov 11 — Around 23 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 11 am in the high-stakes Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll on Tuesday, officials said.
Polling began at 7 am amid heavy security arrangements and will continue until 6 pm. Voting has so far remained peaceful, with long queues reported at several polling booths across the constituency.
The bypoll was necessitated following the death of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal in June. The election is being closely watched as a key test for political parties ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Security forces have been deployed in large numbers, with Punjab Police managing the outer perimeters of polling stations while Central Armed Police Forces maintain vigil inside the premises.
Counting of votes will take place on November 14.
