Chandigarh/SAS Nagar, November 12, 2025 — Punjab police on Wednesday arrested two operatives linked to foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang following a brief encounter on the Ambala-Dera Bassi highway, officials said.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the arrests marked a major breakthrough in efforts to make Punjab safer under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s directives. “Preliminary investigation reveals that the arrested duo were involved in a recent firing incident in Rajpura and were tasked by Goldy Dhillon to target a businessman in Punjab,” he said.

The arrested men were identified as Sharanjit Singh, a resident of Tangori in Mohali, and Aman Kumar of Khijargarh, Zirakpur. Police recovered two .32 bore pistols with 10 live cartridges from them and impounded their Bajaj Discover motorcycle.

Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Hans, who was at the operation site with SP Rural Manpreet Singh, said, “Credible intelligence about the movement of these operatives was received, and acting swiftly, joint teams of AGTF and SAS Nagar police intercepted and apprehended them.” Hans added that the accused fired at police while trying to escape and sustained bullet injuries in retaliatory fire.

ADGP Promod Ban noted that Goldy Dhillon is also believed to be the mastermind behind the October killing of an Indian-origin industrialist in Abbotsford, British Columbia. DIG AGTF Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said both accused have prior criminal records, with Aman Kumar facing two FIRs related to arms offences.

Police have registered FIR No. 324 dated November 12, 2025, at Dera Bassi Police Station under sections 109, 132, 221, 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 25 of the Arms Act.
