Chandigarh, Dec. 4 — Chaos broke out on Kaimbwala Road behind Sukhna Lake on Wednesday afternoon after an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Chandigarh Police, identified as Daljit Singh, allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol and hit multiple vehicles before colliding with a school bus.
Witnesses said the ASI appeared heavily intoxicated and was unable to control his car, striking one vehicle after another along the busy stretch. Police said he is suspected to have damaged nearly a dozen vehicles, including cars and scooters, before his car came to a halt after a head-on crash with an approaching school bus.
All children and staff traveling in the bus were unharmed, though the incident caused panic among motorists and bystanders. Locals immediately alerted the Police Control Room.
When the PCR team reached the spot, they found the ASI trapped inside the damaged vehicle. Officers had to break open the door to pull him out. The windshield had shattered during the impact, leaving him with a deep forehead injury, and blood was visible on his face.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police officials confirmed in their preliminary findings that the ASI had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
A detailed inquiry is underway, and both departmental and legal action have been initiated. Authorities said further steps will be taken once the medical report and investigation findings are complete.
