Valtoha Begins ‘Tankhah’ With Sewa at Darbar Sahib

AMRITSAR, Dec. 10 — Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha on Tuesday performed sewa at the Golden Temple, a day after Sikh high priests ordered religious punishment for his derogatory comments against Jathedars and for recording an audio clip without permission.

Valtoha began his atonement early in the morning by washing utensils at the Guru Ramdas Ji Langar Hall and later cleaning footwear at the Joda Ghar. His appearance at the shrine came after the panj pyare directed him and four others to complete prescribed tankhah for violating the Sikh code of conduct.

The punishment followed allegations that Valtoha had used insulting language against Sikh clergy in October 2024. He apologised before the high priests, after which the Jathedars accepted his apology and allowed him to begin corrective service.

The Sikh clergy has also withdrawn the 10-year ban previously imposed on him by the Shiromani Akali Dal.
