Chandigarh, Dec 12: A 45-year-old domestic worker from Hallo Majra was robbed of her handbag containing gold and cash in Sector 29 on Wednesday afternoon, police said. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near Sai Mandir when two youths on an Activa scooter intercepted her bicycle and snatched the bag.

The victim, Malti Verma, who has worked as a maid in Sector 19 for more than two decades, said she was returning home after finishing her duties when the scooter riders approached from behind. “They stopped near me and tried to pull something from my ear, but I managed to save it,” she told police.

She said the assailants then grabbed her orange handbag from the bicycle’s front basket and sped away. The bag contained a mobile phone, about ₹8,500 in cash, and a gold nose pin. “I shouted loudly, but no one came to help,” she said.

Verma informed her son, who took her back to the scene before they went to the police station.

Police registered a case under Sections 304(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Industrial Area Police Station and said efforts are underway to identify the suspects.
