Chandigarh, Dec 14: Two Punjabi youths from villages near Budhlada were shot dead in southeast Edmonton, Canada, in the early hours of Friday, Canadian police said, describing the incident as a targeted attack.
The deceased were identified as Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Bareh village, and Ranbir Singh of Uddat Saidewala village. Both were believed to be in their twenties and had gone to Canada separately to pursue employment opportunities.
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) said it received reports of gunfire at around 1:43 a.m. in the area of 32 Street and 26 Avenue.
“When officers arrived, they located two men suffering from gunshot wounds,” EPS said in a media release. “Despite life-saving efforts, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.”
The EPS Homicide Section has taken over the investigation, and autopsies have been scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Police said they are searching for a dark-coloured sports utility vehicle that may have been in the area at the time of the shooting.
