Chandigarh, 11 October, 2024: A day after a street vendor was fatally stabbed in Manimajra, police arrested three individuals on Thursday.

The suspects, identified as Sameer, his father Abdul, and brother Jhameel, are facing murder charges in connection with the death of the victim, Devinder Kumar Bhola, according to Chandigarh Police.

The stabbing occurred during a physical altercation following a municipal corporation inspection near Government Model School in Manimajra around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

The inspection team questioned several street vendors about unpaid fees, leading to tensions when Sameer discovered that Devinder had directed the municipal team to his shop.

This sparked a heated argument between the two vendors.

As the altercation escalated, Sameer allegedly retrieved a sharp-edged weapon from his scooter and attacked Devinder, inflicting a severe stab wound to his left hand. Devinder bled profusely and was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Police maintained that Devinder had been suffering from dengue fever, resulting in a low platelet count that worsened his condition and contributed to the excessive bleeding that ultimately led to his death.
