Fog Triggers Bus–Truck Crash in Phagwara

Phagwara, Dec 27: A Punjab Roadways bus driver was injured after the bus rammed into a truck on National Highway 44 near Phagwara on Saturday, police said, attributing the accident to poor visibility caused by dense fog.

The crash occurred near the Royal King resort on the Jalandhar–Phagwara stretch of the highway during the morning hours. While the driver sustained injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital, passengers escaped with minor bruises, officials said.

“The bus was travelling from Jalandhar towards Phagwara when it collided with a truck moving from Jalandhar to Anandpur Sahib,” a police official said.

The accident led to traffic disruption on the busy highway, resulting in long queues of vehicles.

Road Safety Force in-charge Makhan Singh said a crane was pressed into service to clear the road. “The damaged bus was moved to the side to restore traffic flow,” he said.

Traffic movement was normalised after clearance operations were completed, police said.
