Cold weather persists across Punjab, Haryana

CHANDIGARH, Jan 3 — Cold conditions continued across Punjab and Haryana on Saturday, though minimum temperatures at several places remained above seasonal averages, according to the India Meteorological Department.

In Haryana, Mahendragarh emerged as the coldest location, recording a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius, the IMD said.

Ambala reported a low of 11.2 degrees Celsius, around four degrees above normal, while Hisar recorded 8.1 degrees, two degrees higher than the average. Karnal logged a minimum of 9 degrees, also above normal.

The minimum temperature in Rohtak settled at 9.8 degrees Celsius, about three degrees above average. Bhiwani, Sirsa and Faridabad recorded lows of 5.8, 9 and 6.3 degrees, respectively.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, recorded a minimum temperature of 9.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.

In Punjab, Faridkot was the coldest place with a low of 5.5 degrees Celsius. Amritsar recorded 7.5 degrees, four degrees above normal, while Ludhiana logged a minimum of 9.6 degrees, also four notches above average. Patiala recorded a low of 8.3 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.

Other stations, including Pathankot, Bathinda, Gurdaspur and SBS Nagar, reported minimum temperatures of 9.2, 8.2, 8 and 7.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
