Two Killed In KMP Expressway Inferno

NUH, JAN 18: Two people were killed Sunday morning on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway when a multi-vehicle pile-up sparked a massive fire. The accident occurred near the Mohammadpur Ahir police station area in Haryana’s Tawadu subdivision, involving five vehicles including a container truck and a dump truck loaded with gravel.

The fire broke out immediately upon impact, trapping a driver and a cleaner inside their vehicle. Both victims were charred to death at the spot, making immediate identification impossible.

The Mohammadpur Ahir police station in-charge noted that the crash was triggered when a vehicle suddenly applied its brakes between Sabras and Gudhi villages. This led to a chain reaction that left two heavy vehicles engulfed in flames.

“Efforts are underway to identify the deceased,” the station in-charge said. He also mentioned that preliminary findings suggest sudden braking was the primary cause of the tragedy.

The blaze took nearly two hours to contain, requiring the intervention of three fire tenders. The incident caused a significant traffic bottleneck on the expressway, which was eventually cleared after three hours of emergency operations.

Eyewitnesses reported that two vehicles involved in the initial accident fled the scene before authorities arrived. Police said they are actively searching for the missing vehicles and will initiate legal action as soon as formal complaints are lodged.
