New Delhi, Feb 10: Emergency teams in Delhi have initiated a massive search and rescue operation after a man fell into an open drain in Rohini’s Begumpur area on Tuesday evening.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a distress call at approximately 7:45 pm, prompting the immediate dispatch of rescue personnel to the site. The incident took place near the Mahashakti Kali Temple in Sector 32, within the jurisdiction of the Begumpur police station. Local authorities and fire officials are currently on the scene attempting to locate the individual, whose identity has not yet been confirmed.

“Teams are at the site and rescue efforts are in progress,” an official from the Delhi Fire Services noted while providing an update on the search status.

The incident has sparked fresh concerns regarding civic safety in the national capital, coming just four days after the tragic death of 25-year-old Kamal Dhyani. Dhyani, a bank employee, lost his life after his motorcycle fell into a 15-foot-deep open pit in Janakpuri on February 6. Officials mentioned that the search in Rohini is being conducted under challenging night-time conditions, with police personnel assisting fire crews in scanning the drain.

Authorities noted that the investigation into the circumstances of the fall is ongoing. While rescue teams remain focused on the immediate search, residents have voiced growing alarm over the presence of uncovered drains and excavation sites across the city. Officials directly said that they are exploring all avenues to ensure the person is retrieved as quickly as possible.
